Moisand Fitzgerald Tamayo Wins Prestigious National Award

By Knut Rostad on November 7, 2019

Moisand Fitzgerald Tamayo Recognized by Schwab Advisor Services with 2019 Trailblazer IMPACT AwardTM

November 4, 2019 – (Orlando) – Moisand Fitzgerald Tamayo, LLC was honored today by Schwab Advisor Services with the 2019 Trailblazer IMPACT AwardTM. The firm was recognized for its efforts to improve the quality of advice, raise the bar for ethics standards, and advance the financial planning profession. The firm was acknowledged at Schwab IMPACT®, the nation’s largest and longest-running annual gathering of independent advisors.

“We are thrilled to get this recognition because we believe the American public deserves the ability to get honest, unbiased, objective help to navigate a very complex financial system,” said Dan Moisand, Principal and Financial Advisor, Moisand Fitzgerald Tamayo. “And, if we don’t push for it, the broader industry isn’t going to deliver.”

The IMPACT Awards® are given each year to independent advisor firms that have demonstrated excellence through leadership, innovative business practices, client dedication, and fresh thinking. The categories include the Best-in-Business Award, the Pacesetter Award, the Trailblazer Award, and the Best-in-Retirement Business Award. The Trailblazer Award recognizes an independent advisory firm that is forging new ground by combining entrepreneurial spirit with a drive to advance their profession as a whole.

Among many other efforts, the firm has helped set standards for financial planning ethics, advised on the creation of Florida’s first financial planning business degree program, and successfully advocated for Florida high schools to integrate financial literacy into the curriculum.

“It has always been important to us to do more than serve clients. We want to do so in an exceptional way that sets a tone for our colleagues around the world,” said Moisand.

Winning firms were selected by a panel of independent judges. As part of the award, Schwab will make a donation of $15,000 to the Foundation for Financial Planning. Said Moisand, “A true profession has a strong pro bono culture. The Foundation for Financial Planning is the nation’s only charity solely devoted to supporting the delivery of pro bono financial planning.”

"But a much bigger point is that the fiduciary standard—as Knut Rostad of the Institute for the Fiduciary Standard has pointed out—has been determined by the Supreme Court (1963 ruling) to be at the very heart of the Investment Advisers Act of 1940. It is the foundation of what it means to be an RIA registered with the SEC instead of a tipster or a tout."
